S-A-T-U-R-D-A-Y NIGHT! What’s your favorite way to spend Saturday night?
Being 66, my Saturday nights are pretty B-O-R-I-N-G. But I’m not too old to remember how exciting Saturday nights were when I was in high school and college — and a while thereafter. Oh the primping (hair teasing in the early ’60’s and the Twiggy eyes in the late ’60s), and finding just the right things to wear, and the excitement of what the evening might hold even when it was a sock hop, and later, nights out in a Scottish pub or at a college party. Boyfriend or not, Saturday nights were special. Rather than to expound on my present boring Saturday nights, or travel down memory lane in a time long past, I’ve decided to highlight songs about Saturday nights: The first one must be the all time best Saturday night theme song:
Saturday Night by the Eagles: I liked the Eagles, but I wasn’t familiar with this song. Anybody else?
American Saturday Night by Brad Paisley: This is definitely good old-fashioned country, and Paisley, as usual makes it sound like fun.
Some Day I’ll Be Saturday Night — Jon Bon Jovi: Not a big Bon Jovi fan, but many people loved him in the ’80 and ’90’s.
Who could forget this high-octane Saturday night anthem! This is an old video; I like it because it’s from Elton John in his prime.
Small Town Saturday Night — Hal Ketchum: Another entertaining country a western way to spend Saturday nights.
Another Saturday Night — Cat Stevens: I remember Cat Steven well. He was one of my favorites in the ’60’s and ’70’s, before he was Yusuf Islam and opted out of the pop scene.
Almost Saturday Night — Rick Nelson: Now this was a blast from the past. I had totally forgotten the crush I had on him when I was a teenager. So handsome, and so sad that he died in an airplane crash in 1985. What’s interesting too, is this song, written by John Fogerty (and sung by him once), has recently been re-recorded by Keith Urban.
Which Saturday night is your favorite?
