You’re throwing a party — for you! Tell us all about the food, drink, events, and party favors you’ll have for your event of a lifetime. Use any theme you like — it’s *your* party!

After two daughter’s weddings, and helping with my daughter-in-law’s wedding and the reception dinner, of course I can plan a good party. For a couple of years my daughter and I have hosted a Christmas party at our home for her friends and their parents. We’re lucky that we’ve lived in the same house for 27 years, so my daughter has had the same friends since she was 3 and obviously the parents have gotten to know each other, too. So now we have a combined party and it’s really a wonderful event now that we’re all “adults”.

Family and friends, and no one I should invite but don’t want to, would be on my guest list. I think I’d mix it up and invite people who came from my different circles of friends. Most of them should have things in common, though I haven’t tested that theory yet; life many people, I tend to compartmentalize my friends and think of them in separate groups. It would be fun to see them all together and to see if, just because I like them, they like each other.

I love black and white, so I think I’d have a party with that theme with a little red thrown in for a dash of color. This doesn’t mean formal, like tuxes — perhaps just fun with the two opposites.

I love to cook and had great fun finding new recipes for our last Christmas party, and everyone loved the food. But for my event I’d select a caterer. I’ve never had anything catered before so I’d get some suggestions from friends who have used caterers and find one to prepare a buffet dinner with lots of good things, and some delectable desserts.

My husband and son are quite the wine connoisseurs and I’d let them take care of that, but there’s nothing like sparkling wines, but of course there were be alternatives available.

My delightful party would have vases of flowers and lots of candles — soft lighting, subtle scents, good food, sparkling wines, and lots of laughter.
