As a kid, were you happy or anxious about going back to school? Now that you’re older, how has your attitude toward the end of the summer evolved?

The new year is exciting
Seeing old friends, new friends,
Gather around welcoming

Excitement of the first day
Shows a zest for forming minds
New teachers, new ideas
New discoveries of all kinds

The promise of each new year
And the growth that will ensue
Of young minds and growing souls
Is a challenge all pursue

Teachers, parents and students,
all working in harmony
Make each year significant
when begun so cheerfully.

Children need the challenges
Routine and stability
To explore their changing world
Its complex reality

Go forth with joy in learning
It’s adventure, not a grind
So much unknown to explore
Clues for each curious mind

I’ve always been into education, and while it was a drag sometimes in school when I had an obtuse teachers, or incomprehensible math or sciences classes, I love it even more now than I did then. Most kids are curious, and the secret is to find our how to make even the seemingly mundane more attractive. It’s a challenge! And in a classroom where teachers work together with students to find answers, the teacher learns as much as the students. Now that’s fun. Am I a geek, a nerd?
