If “failure is the condiment that gives success its flavor” (Truman Capote), how spicy do you like your success stories?

True, without some spice, success would be bland. Some success will be hard won; requiring battles, and pushing oneself to the edge. We all want success — and some will achieve more than others. Some people seem to be success junkies, everything is up for grabs. Winning is a way of life; that’s too confrontational for me. My attitude is : 1) you choose your battles, and 2) you win some and you lose some. Occasional defeat is to be expected; that’s life, and defeat doesn’t end striving for a long term goal. It can simply be a learning experience. I, personally, can’t eat spicy foods every day — I get heartburn. People who are always in the fray must get burn out, and I suspect they’re not clear about what their ultimate goals are.

Each person has to define what success is for them. You need to know where you’re going so you’ll know when you get there. Life ebbs and flows for most people — some things are within one’s control, others aren’t. Ups and downs. You can’t walk on fire all the time, but need to be ready to run the gauntlet when it’s necessary and is important enough.
