Tell us about something you would attempt if you were guaranteed not to fail (and tell us why you haven’t tried it yet).

Piloting a plane is something I would like to try — if I were guaranteed not to fail. This was also a dream of my son’s, and a few years ago his wife-to-be bought him a flight at a local small airport and though he has a high anxiety level, he wanted to do it enough he gave it a try and really enjoyed it. I haven’t done it myself because I can’t justify spending that amount of money on a “flight of fancy”.

I’m less afraid of actually taking over the controls than I am of the aircraft itself. I know that there are far more accidents with small planes and that frightens me. I fly to a lot of different destinations, and while I fear the loss of control — trusting the pilots, the mechanics, and the company — I want to travel more than I dislike flying. I also believe reports that flying commercially is safer than driving a car; that helps my anxiety level!

Thinking of small airplanes, I will never attempt parachuting — no level of guarantee of its safety would convince me to try it. I am sure I would hit the ground with a non-beating heart.
